its basically going be a on demand music channel that will make its money off selling ringtone while you watch the music video. All sound good! Top Up TV looks like there kinda going with the music on demand idea but is getting a ringtone company do it for them.

Heres a screenshot i found on there website

and here is the press release...

Mobile Entertainment company PlayPhone is to launch a television channel in a groundbreaking joint venture with Top Up TV, the company that provides Pay TV services on Digital Terrestrial Television.

The television channel is called Playphone Hits and will showcase the rich mobile content offered by Playphone’s Splash Mobile service, including videos, games, celebrity gossip and other fun applications, adding to the WAP, web and SMS media through which it is presently available.

Programming will include music videos, updated weekly, competitions and there will be a constant Playphone presence on screen, offering ringtones, games, celeb videos, news and gossip and other content.

Viewers will be encouraged to interact with the programming by texting or visiting the Splash website http://uk.splashmobile.com

The channel is set to launch on Top Up TV starting September 6. It is the first time a mobile entertainment brand has launched its own branded television channel.

Martin Bowley, Managing Director of PlayPhone EMEA, said: “It’s a totally new idea for a mobile content company to be branching out by launching a television channel. This is the ideal way for us to extend the Playphone brand beyond the world of mobile.”

“The aim of this launch is to boost subscriber numbers and generate additional revenue via SMS. The beauty is that we can easily track new traffic, so it is a completely accountable exercise.”

Jim Hytner, Commercial Director said: “Top Up TV is in a unique position to offer viewers all of their favourite Freeview channels, a host of subscription services, plus free content from imaginative content providers such as Playphone Hits. The days of TV coming from conventional broadcasters are gone. Viewers expect much more and Playphone Hits is a great example of the new generation ‘broadcaster’.”

“Top Up TV aims to provide a service for newcomers to the television market and help them find a niche. Playphone Hits is among the first to showcase itself in a new, exciting part of our business, which is separate from our basic Anytime business and one for which we have great hopes and plans over the coming months and years.”

i have to say that sounds like the worst channel ever available on TUTV. More celebrity gossip is not what we need.

Will this, as per Lottery Extra & Info, be another channel which we are forced to download, whether we like it or not? When I press the "Top Up" button, I see "Play Phone Hits" as a new channel. If, however, I select the "Customise TopUp TV" option, it's not there to select, or deselect. If so, I don't think it right.

Please, no! Anything but that!

And I thought forced national lottery downloads were bad enough...

I assume PlayPhone Hits will be FTA as there is already an Ofcon licence for it. If so it could be on Anytime 3 from 1130-1300, and/or replacing Eurosport from 0730-1100 or maybe taking a chunk out of G.O.L.D.

It's over a month late. See here for Playphone thread

Do we know if this is free and forced (like Lottery Xtra TopUp channel) or free and optional (like the Teachers' TV TopUp channel).

"Play Phone Hits" doesn't appear in the "Customise TopUp TV" menu. So, it looks as though it will be another forced download, like "Lottery Xtra" & "Info". We're a captive audience for this unsolicited content which is slowly (but surely) nibbling away at our free disk space, without our permission. It shouldn't be allowed.

LCN46 has a new slot 2030-2100 for teleshopping.

Could this be PlayPhone Hits?

Yet another forced download service for something I do not want.

I had 30 hours free disk space this morning, yet now this new 'service' has been launched, it's gone down to 21 hours!

This is the final straw, goodbye TUTV, hello Tiscali TV!

"TUTV Hours/Week" is now 4 (non subscription), I think before "PlayPhone" it was 3.

With these forced downloads and the unreliable nature of the box it's just not my kind of product.

It does seem that these promos will continue and get more and more frequent, and perhaps larger in size.

How can it be on demand if its downloaded TUTV content???

I think if it shows current music videos it will be cool!

How are they going to get around the rules on separating programme content and advertising?

TUTV don't need no damm rules man!

They're a free spirit, a wandering minstrel, a law unto themselves.

TopUp TV are turning into one of those companies, you know. One of them.

I have a feeling the upcoming firmware upgrade will be mostly about more ways to sell advertising space rather than bug fixes.

That certainly seems to be the direction they're heading in. Almost daily adverts now for a football match I'm not interested in.

looks like you are right. Well I can't afford another box at the moment, so I will have to put up with it and just ignore it until finances get better. I suppose I could get bigger hard drive and stick that in the box. I could I suppose put my old Thomson back in line, but I will miss the series link.

What people need to do is put up a stink about it, certaily the ones who subscibe and find out that because they have lost some space due to stuff they don't want, they can't have all the stuff they do want. 160Gb of space is not much with TUTV.

I suppose Playphone hits have to be forced onto people, because no one in their right mind would go near it any other way.

The same with the lottery stuff and the Sentanta adverts, why would any one wnat to watch that rubbish?

I also watch some of the lottery content and some of it is quite entertaining. Mind you don't play the lottery and never will so it's wasted on me.
