Bid TV - Lose Freeview Channel

Bid TV have lost one thier Freeview channels after they were outbid for their contract renewal! Will this will mean the end of speed auction TV on Freeview and perhaps even Bid TV?! Price Drop will remain apparently.....

With this news today?

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitalt...ent-delay.html

It's not worth having Virgin 1 daytime as it's full of repeats of Star Trek and X Files. It's one of the worst channels on sky.

AFAIK bid tv only broadcasts 6am-7pm in Wales as it timeshares with Time-Warner (Nuts TV/TUTV 2). So this maybe another abc1 scenario and CITV has again outbidded an existing Mux A channel. This leaves bid tv's 24 hour stream in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland so perhaps explains why SDN was advertising for bids.

SDN invites proposals for a new digital television channel to launch in January 2009

Was that not something to do with Channel Five moving creating more space?

I must admit I have bought a few items off Bid and Price Drop in the past but I think I would prefer a non shopping channel to replace it.

If Bid Tv have lost the SDN slot they will probably get the Arqiva one instead and that comes with a night time service to Wales.

I was under the impression that the contracts expired in 2010. So if the Op is correct it will be a good while before there are any changes.

This auction for Bid TV's slot seems to have been a bit secretative?

They will almost certainly be bidding for it. Whether they win is another matter.

It started in January 2003(?). Given that this news has come with three months to next January, I'm guessing the contract expires next January.

This may well be the SDN slot that was up for grabs.

Bid TV started 23/1/2003 on Freeview mux A.

It certainly looks like it and I wonder if ITV have awarded it to themselves like CITV?

Anything to get rid of a shopping channel is good news for me. I was flicking through the channels yesterday and notcied a mobile phone they were selling at £27.99. Add to this the premium rate call to order it and the £7.99 for postage.

Its only £29.99 brand new from a shop!
