The Last Millionaire
BBC Three 21:00 12 Nov 2008
Twelve entrepreneurs, six exciting cities... who will be The Last Millionaire? I feel like I have a duty to promote this show, seeing as one of the contestants is my cousin! It's on BBC3 so I think it's aimed at a younger audience. However, it seems similar in style to The Apprentice. Every week the contestants go to a new city and have to try to make as much money as they can, using initiative and their entrepreneurial skills. I'll definitely be tuning in! How well do you think it will do? Could it be as successful as Dragon's Den or The Apprentice? |

I heard a short ad for this show on the radio this morning that said they'd be taken to antoher country, deprived of any access to their money, business contacts and return tickets THEN told to go forth and profit.
That sounds like something that could be interesting. |

Has been getting a big push in the Scottish press as one of the contestants is a Scottish brewer.

Any1 watch this? was very much "apprentice" like with each team of 2 young millionaires having to make as much money as possible in a week (starting with an average weekly wage as a budget). This week they were in Turkey.
Ideas ranged from organising underground parties to selling bottles of water on the street. |

Am I missing the point?
I don't understand the why the concept of this programme is appealing to the contestants. The aim seems to be to keep the most ineffective, dumbest or least entrepreneurial person going through some sort of torment. What is in it for the them? It can't be the money or even the free travel; if they are millionaires then the pittance that the winners take away each week won't be much of a prize for them.
The winner (or looser) will only show them self in a light that will hardly be a good promotion for them in there real business world. Although being on BBC3 probably most of the people that they do business with may not even see it. Maybe the new ethos of reality TV is the "John Sargent" effect to keep the hapless and hopeless going to make us all feel better that these successful people can fall on their a*** too. |
