And - I just made the 5000'th post in this thread - do I win an award???

I looked at the CBC schedule, and this is the only weekend coming up with 3 games, so its normal for us too just get 2, but still I wasn't expecting NASN to have the Early Game, not only that but the following Saturday NASN will be showing 3 NHL Games, one from the States at 7pm then the usual 2 HNIC Games CBC is back to normal that day with 2 Games on their main feed.

Thorne and Clement used to be my favorite pair as well but this thing about Thorne looking uncomfortable is that really just you saying to yourself "i'll never get used to this guy being an ancorman"
Because he genuinely looks like he's enjoying himself weekly, always cracking jokes with his colleagues blantantly & subtly.

Not according to the count at the side mate

Dunno if NASN are showing the baseball classic, but does anyone know if Cuba have been allowed in yet?

Even more bizarrely, the past weekend had the titles, but no sound...thought my TV was playing up at first

yep, it's the annual "Hockey Day in Canada" when they base themselves in some remote outpost and present links and features on the grass roots of the game. They're hosting from Newfoundland this year. The best part of it is that the three games always involve the six Canuck teams. From the NASN schedule, we get the games but go off to College Basketball after the Ottawa/Montreal game, returning for the Edmonton/Toronto match.

Here's my post from this thread on the 10th of November:

I emailed NASN yesterday to enquire whether they'd have any coverage of the World Baseball Classic that starts on the 3rd of March. Here's their reply:

Thank you for contacting NASN - the only TV channel dedicated to North American Sports in Europe.

Unfortunately, as the World Baseball Classic 2006 is a new event, we do not have any details regarding coverage of this at the present time.

Hopefully, if the rights to this new event do become available, we will most definitely be pursuing them.

Please check our website for any future announcements.
If they don't manage to get the rights to show it I believe it'll be available to watch on mlb.tv, which is quite watchable via a broadband connection (the streams are usually 300Kbps) on a computer with fairly modest specs (I watch the regular-season games on an Apple iBook G3/900MHz using RealPlayer and it's perfectly watchable).

Many thanks for that, hope they do cover it as any baseball is worth watching for me.

The world baseball classic is exactly the sort of thing that NASN could/should go after. It's worth dropping them a mail just to point out how much you'd like to see them get the rights (it doesn't do any harm).

The only potential problem is that it coincides with March Madness (the WBC runs March 3rd-20th according the official website). The hockey and basketball seasons are also normally heating up at that point too. From memory, March is one of the busiest months of the year (doesn't NASCAR start up again around then too?).

Why are we getting so much NHL and hardly any NCAA Basketball which we have had next to nothing

Hmmm!!! I wonder if its because NASN get NHL on the Cheap

Slam Dunk Monday

Washington Wizards V Philadelphia 76ers
New Jersey Nets V Indiana Pacers
Chicago Bulls V Utah Jazz
Memphis Grizzlies V San Antonio Spurs
Los Angeles Lakers V Miami Heat

This is the Line up for Monday 16th January on SS2 all the games are live apart from ths Bulls V Jazz game which is a Flashback

Reason why we can get games live early is because its Martin Luther King Day (Bank Holiday)

I have a horrible feeling my Sky+ didn't get all of the Rose Bowl this morning. If that's the case...I think I may have to cry in a corner somewhere...

....the game did go beyond 5am GMT if that's what you're wondering.

If you're a USC fan, it was a terrible game.

You may not have to wait that long to see MLB in this country...

Well, thanks for giving away the result then!

That's my big problem with the sky+, the padding of events like this.

For really important stuff, I use my HDD/DVD recorder, it'll keep recording until I turn it off.

If it helps, there was a mention before the game started that the whole game would be available via itunes today - but I guess only for the US market. Worth a look though.

For games like this one that will obviously overrun NASN's alloted time, I use the manual recording facility so I didn't miss the end. Got all the pre and post match stuff as well as the match all on one recording.

Ditto to that Elway, manual recording of most live sport on NASN is a must because unlike some other channels they stay right until the very end, postgame and all if they have nothing else live to show afterwards.
The Orange Bowl was a great game in my opinion neither team wanted to give it up in the end.

...and I will endeavour to do so in future, don't you doubt that for a second! I've manually recorded the last hour as I understand that was what I missed, roughly, so I should have the rest of the game to watch...after, of course, I've watched ATH.

BTW, I don't like Mariotti, but his column about the Rose Bowl was excellently written IMO. Well worth a look!

Don Cherry is far from "past it" as somebody remarked. He is one of the most passionate, knowledgable and frankly entertaining analysts covering hockey. It's personalities like Cherry, Kornheiser and Wilbon on PTI and the guys on ATH that makes me realise how drab, boring and dull UK sports coverage is.

Totally agree with you AndyTSJ, you only have to watch the BBC football coverage with Alan Hansen...need I say more ?
