Northern transmission Weather team say there goodbye's

was just watching the weather on Granada Local and noticed that Debbie Lindley was saying farewell for what seemed to be her final broadcast on Granada on New Years Eve

it was the same on Yorkshire Local as well where Jon Mitchell said "Might see you again soon"

whats the story here?

interestingly Jon mitchell hasn't presented a weather forecast on Granada for 6 months or more

I'm not sure what's happening but it's strange to kill of the Weather team for the North. Who's going to replace it? Surely not our Weather Team here in the South?

Same happened on Border weather. I wonder if they will start doing an "ITV North" broadcast? covering all of the Tyne Tees & Border, Granada and Yorkshire area's.
This would perhaps be brought to us by a weather presenter at ITV London, anything to save a few quid! nothing would suprise me with ITVplc anymore!

Are some weather forecasts not sort of out sourced, Central's which has been done by Charlie and Emma for years is done by a seperate company who also do HTV Wales ?. Seem to remember reading something along those lines on this forum a year or so back.

At least the BBC's weather forecasters are qualified meterologists, unlike ITV's......

Jon Mitchell certainly worked for the Met Office as a forecaster until they shut Leeds weather centre.

Not all of the BBC's weather people are "proper" forecasters though - Louise Lear and Carol Kirkwood are presenters rather than forecasters although they will have had some training in meteorology.

Equally a lot of the BBC's regional weather presenters are not forecasters who work(ed) for the Met Office - Paul Hudson and Lisa Gallagher are, but I'm not sure whether the likes of Keeley Donovan are.

Who needs weather bulletins for the north of England? , all it ever does is get cold or rain a lot , dont need some fool stood in front of a map to tell us that. Might as well show the potters wheel for what use they are

I'm not particularly sqeamish about non-meteorologists 'presenting' the weather, provided they have had some kind of training and are working under the guidance of a trained forecaster - and, for my money, the Northern Weather Centre more than fulfil that criteria. Jon Mitchell, I believe, is a forecaster and both Kerrie Gosney (yes, she is lovely) and Jo Blythe always seem knowledgeable and convey the message well.

Out of interest, I wonder what the plans are for the merged Border/Tyne-Tees region - will they have one super-region weather bulletin or will there be a mini-opt out, with each of the former regions retaining their own forecast?

Makes you glad STV is not fully part of ITV PLC. The local weather guy on STV has had some training in forcasting. Hes not been on much during the christmas holidays. I love watching the local weather forcasts as I like to follow the weather. I even use weather sites and got a weather watch programe on my PC and have a digital weather station thing on my wall in my bedroom.

Unlike that useless bimbo Becky Mantin who does the weather after the ITV National News.
I work in Television, freelance Cameraman and see the weather from the North quite a lot, but as another poster has said, why do you need a presenter in the North all it ever does is rain

If they are reading scripts written by qualified meteorologists, then what is the problem? Local radio would need to spend a fortune if you could only have fully qualified bods telling you if it's going to rain (yes it is) or be sunny (no it's not.)

(And yes, we all love Kerrie!)

Thats not true, most of them are

Tyne Tees lost its weather forecaster of a million year, Bob Jonhson, late last year to retirement (a.ka - forced out with the rest of the North Tyne Tees news team)

Well the northern team did last nights report. So I am guessing that Debbie Lindley has gone. Think she has only been part time as she does/did a radio show for Real.

Hi, it used to be done by 'The Weather Department', which was partly owned by an ex Central journo, but was brought back in house years ago. Both the Midlands and Wales weather are produced from the same studio, if you can call a broom cupboard a studio,

I worked with Debbie on a series for Discovery a couple of years ago, the reason i remember her so well was her fantastic figure, in fact she told me she had a bust reduction on the nhs because it was doing her back in, won't say any more in case there are any pc merchants viewing.

How annoying is the new BMI Baby insert? Where a new red Tiny tells us January is 'time for detox, baby!'

Actually, it's probably just me, I loathe January especially as time off work is banned, so I can't go to any of Tiny's sunny destinations. Far from detox, I need every bloody tox I can get my hands on to get through this dark, miserable, cashless, soulless, unforgiving, trouble-causing month!

Nice to see smiling Kerrie still with us though, she brightens up a miserable map.

You're lucky that you have only recently been blessed with Becky Mantin, before she went on to the ITV National weather, we were cursed with her here in Anglia for far too long doing our regional broadcasts :P

I take it this is the reason why I've just seen the late Weather broadcast prior to the FA Cup programme on ITV1 Wales being shown as 'ITV Central Weather sponsored by BMI'?

She must have been a big girl in the past then .

Re. one of the other regions as far as I can tell. The two female presenters have gone from Anglia. Sara Thornton who had briefly returned is now a temp with the bbc Look North prg and the other one Amanda Houston who only joined last summer appears to have finished too.
