BBC's "visualise your radio" trial

Testing it as Chris Moyles gets his show video streamed for a week. It's weird seeing them work - I'm used to it - but would we really need watching them?

In other words, your thoughts.

Moyles!

This is great, I've wanted to see this since I saw 606 on Five Live do the same time!

Could do with a full screen button on the player so I can sit in bed and watch :P

Can't lunch that player. Tried with Firefox and Opera, but it says that I haven't got flash enabled (but I have).
Well, it seems that this is another "joy" to just to those who live in the UK.
But if it's so, why the BBC lies us and tell something about flash? If it's copyrights then it's copyrights, don't waste my time while I try to sort out my "flash problem".

I quite like it. The only thing I would say is Comedy Dave's log has just appeared, but showing things from 07:45.... It's now 08:53..., unless if that's what it's supposed to do, but I thought they would do it in time with the time...

I'm in Manila and I'm actually surprised that I can use it. I can't make it work on Firefox too, but I tried IE and it worked fine.

At work at the moment, and the site is blocked. Does anyone know whether you can see this on your TV through Sky / Freeview / Freesat etc, or is it only via a web browser on the PC?

Yes, the visual radio trial only applies to the web and runs during Chris Moyles this week and Sunday night's Switch.

Sure. I'm not complaining, just clarifying, as I want to figure out what my options are for recording it as I can't access it at work. Thanks both.

i thought it was great - although chris did seem a bit peaved that only 1000 odd people watching at 0730hrs, i guess its only something that you would watch during the day at work / home. Beats breakfast TV though.

I don't know why I'm thinking this....but isn't radio supposed to be the medium without pictures? What is the point of this?

I guess I'm a bit of an anorak but I always had a fascination with radio which stems back to a tour I had of the old Clyde Anderston studios when I was a kid.

I remember that Sky used to broadcast the Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin and I recorded it faithfuly every day and watched in the evening. I always found it interesting to see how the shows were broadcast.

Didn't know about Chris Moyles, must find time to watch the stream...if its Chris Moyles I guess its in widescreen

I agree with Franchise. Radio is supposed to be without pictures! Thats what makes it great.

Although seeing him press buttons and other stuff is good fun. Very geeky I know

That was the thrill of it for me, but after seeing it (and already knowing bits) I don't know if I'll use it again. Bandwidth considerations, of course, come in...

Maybe there can be other uses for this. Not for daytime, where they just press buttons (unless they're up to something). Maybe... what could it be?

I guess maybe it might have something to do with the fact that their target audience, ie younger listeners, often aren't tuning into radio, but are more into iPods/downloading music etc... By offering these sort of extras, and with a lot of the other online stuff as well, they're using it to get them to listen to the core product.

I had that Flash/Java problem yesterday too, but it's working fine today. I think my laptop installed some updates.

Been enjoying watching it this morning but it seems it's become overly popular and isn't working any more. Hah. The only downside is that the presenters seem to have become a little obsessed with people being able to see them. I was listening to it just on the radio this morning and felt as if I was missing out on a lot of jokes just because I couldn't see.

Does anyone know why they're not doing this for other shows?

Edit: ah, it's working now

what is the point of live streaming on the radio?
Its like the daytime screening of bb. I spose if you are bored it is a lazy way to fill your time....
also surely the morning show is when most of the target audience are getting up or waking up...not sitting by the computer watching live streaming?
Why not try it out in the early evening or late evening when students are up and about?

That was an entire TV channel on SKY I don't think they are going to go that far! Also a show like Chris Moyles has a lot more 'visual action' that a football phone-in.

I think a better comparison would be Howard Stern's show in the USA...

Yeah I remember it! It was really really daft!

Am I right (probably wrong) didn't James Whale do something similar like this as well?
