ITV Tyne Tees & Border
The new line up for the boredom part of the combined region now announced.
http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/1.481088 Lets hope the journalistic standards are higher than The Carlisle Bugle that carried the feature. Ian Payne has not been Tyne Tees sports reporter since moving to main co-presenter for NET south in September 2006. Pam Royle is his co-presenter on North East TONIGHT south. Apart from that - spot on!

It is a shame we are losing border news, but at least they are keeping some of the presenters, and i think it will still be better than bbc local news as we will still have 15 mins just for cumbria and s scotland whereas with bbc local news its all merged and we hardly ever get mentioned.
Shame about all the people losing their jobs though

Have to say i'm dissapointed that south Scotland hasn't been passed to STV, I was hoping that we wouldn't hear anymore irrelevant scottish stories! ![]() Thats where Look North will always have the upper hand IMO! |

I didn't mind the news as it is now, it made it a bit more fun to watch with things like the friday feeling and the way the presenters seem to have a laugh every now and then, it just makes it a bit easier to watch and is not all deperessing like national news is |

Don't worry, you won't have any local news at all after 2012 according to Mr Grade

To be honest, we have a great local newspaper which provides us with all the local news from this area, nothing about Dumfries, Hawick, Newcastle or Sunderland, and they seem to be able to fill the paper night after night with real news about our county, which is something Cumbria will never have on any TV news programme, so for some area's such as the North East the demise of regional TV news will have more impact than it will on this side of the pennines IMO.

We only get the local newspaper on saturday but it does usually have a lot on often quite interesting stuff to be honest, yes it can be full of rubbish sometimes but then again so are most papers

The Trinity Media Group pretty much have a handle around Tyneside with the Evening Chronicle Sunderland Echo and Shields Gazette as well as other countless evening local papers (even though they are sold from 11 these days) and the daily Journal output With ITV opting to mirror BBC Look North's output I don't see a need for both and I'd be happy for ITV to ditch the Watermark |

I think what will happen is that local tv news will be superseded by local newspapers.

Hi! All
So the newspaper artical states that is is subject to Ofcom approval, I thought approval had already been given but if it has not when will we hear if it has?. Also since the start of the year and everyone being back at work I have not seen Johnathan Morrell on North-East Tonight, I know he also works on Century does anyone know if he will be back?. And does it mean that Phillippa Thompson will no longer be on the news here in the North-East?. If so then thanks for an entertaining time over the last year or so Phillippa and good luck!. We did have a new presenter on last night but I was laying down at the time and did not see or hear her name mentioned, does anyone know who it was?. |

As I've mentioned in other threads, that is the most outrageous aspect to this whole cherade. OFCOM had given the green light to ITV to implement the changes even before its own sham consultation. ITV had set the wheels in motion even before said consultation period had ended. The fate of the 430 staff who are losing their jobs and the millions who will receive a diluted service as a result will be sealed next month, even before the regulator's final pronouncement on the issue. Does this not smack as being rather odd? We are well used to spurious consultations and fatuous promises from OFCOM and similar quangos, but the process is still usually coated with a veneer of respectability. Yet not in this case.

Rachel Bullock has been co-presenting NET North on Monday & Tuesday. Maybe Philippa is on her weather forecasting training course. I understand she will present NET when Pam is absent and it would appear she is being kept on the subs bench for female presenter. Jonathan Morrell hasn't been on since before Christmas and as he is still presenting weekdays on century fm, I think it's fair to assume that he has already had his redundancy cheque. Now that ITV Boredom have announced their changes, it seems strange that Tyne Tees seem not to have yet made any similar announcement. |

Excerpt from todays' Ofcom announcement:
'Border and Tyne Tees areas will be served by a single regional main weekday news bulletin, containing variations of 15 minutes for each of the Border and Tyne Tees areas, and by a separate 9 minute bulletin after News at Ten' It would seem that with some regions ie Central East/West, Anglia East/West getting only 6 minutes, that Tyne Tees are in many ways lucky to be getting 15! I never realised that the ITV regional changes also meant a reduced service on teletext. ITV North East Teletext has a page which announces:
'Teletext is changing its regional news coverage meaning you will be able to read stories from Cumbria as well as those from the North East. You will receive seven stories from the North East region, as well as seven Cumbria news items from February 9. This follows decisions by broadcasting regulator Ofcom on safeguarding the viability of TV regional news' ![]() I like the way the statement is phrased as if it is some kind of enhanced service that we can now see Cumbria news lol. I wonder if the February 9 date will also see the launch of the new North East Tonight?? |

Its the exact same up in the borders as are news on teletext is being merged with Central Scotland so we would be getting the same. 7 stories for south west scotland and borders and another 7 stories from the central belt.

But then again us down in the Borders would be forgotten about as all the news stories would be about edinburgh and glasgow same as the BBC. As us down here would be forgotten about with only a few stories from time to time. I think it maybe better with tyne tees as we still get our own slot and the same amount of news reports from the Borders as we are getting at the moment. So i dont see much change just the way news is being broadcast in this area.

The fact of the matter is that it should not matter where the bloody TV station is as long as you get news from your town or city! STV or whatever they are called these days are independent of ITV so splitting the Scottish part of border and adding it to the STV franchise was never on the cards. Let’s just hope that wherever the news is broadcast from its fairly representative of the whole combined franchise! Quote:
Why??? When I watch local news I want it to be local and could not give a .... whats happening in London! Thats why its called local news! I'm sure you will still get reporting scotland from the BBC which would give you all of this? |

Thats a shame because the 331 page carries a lot lot more than BBC' 160 does, the more local stories too |
