Phil Easton

http://radiotoday.co.uk/news.php?extend.4354.2

A legend, who was brave enough to put me to air to read a what's on as a very timid 13 year old whilst on work experience at Orchard FM.

Rest in peace, Phil.

A great loss to the airwaves.

I'm absolutely gutted.

As a teenage rock fan in the mid-seventies I used to love listening to the Great Easton Express on Radio City which was required listening every night at 6.30. He also used to do rock discos at the Floral Hall in Southport that were always good nights.

Years later I heard that he'd moved to Orchard FM and it was strange listening to him on the mid-morning show presenting the Britpop hits of the time whilst on holiday in Minehead.

RIP Phil. He was, indeed, a legend.

What a shock I used to see him in the local Sainsburys doing his shopping, and was a regular listener to him on Magic 1548 breakfast.

A very sad loss indeed! RIP Phil

Sad news indeed. I knew Phil well from the days when he'd visit Rick Dane and myself at the Radio Jackie North rock nights. Strangely the most popular new rock tunes we played would always appear the next week on the Great Easton Express...Industrial espionage I'm sure! Great bloke though - always bought us naughty pirates a pint or two.

R.I.P Phil

Sad to have lost both Phil and Tim Grundy within the space of 24 hours, both in their 50s!

With you on this one. He was essential listening on City for all things rock and really knew his stuff.

A sad day. R I P Phil.

Really sad news. For those who aren't aware, Phil was also the pitchside voice at Anfield. He announced the teams, got people warmed up for the game and more. I will certainly not just miss hearing him on air, but also at Liverpool home games.

RIP Phil, YNWA

I'm in such deep shock, Phil was a real gentleman and it was such a pleasure to work with him for so many years. Phil was at Orchard when I was made redundant and was the first to offer me a job!

RIP Phil, Radio will miss You!

I'm really shocked at this news.

Phil was a great broadcaster, I was a big fan of The Express all those years ago.

RIP

Phil is responsible for my musical tastes which he had an influence over in the 70s and 80s. I grew up with the Express and Radio Jackie North.
It was on his show that I first heard the words, "On a hot summer night, would you etc etc etc".

RIP phil

YNWA.

I trust there'll be a minute's silence at the next home game (Man City on the 22nd)?!?

Like everyone here I'm gutted to hear the news. It's another piece of my childhood that's gone forever.

When I think of Phil I think of nights in my bedroom doing my homework (or not), listening to the Great Easton Express. It was great stuff.

On the day John Lennon died The Great Easton Express was essential listening. I still have the cassettes of the show I recorded that night.

Keep on rocking Phil.

Radio City, CityTalk and Magic 1548 all have tributes on their Websites.

Alas Orchard FM have nothing, which is a real shame given the years he was there.

Very sad news, I can't believe it, god bless him.
The Great Eastern Express with Phil and Kevin Mc Dempster, was one of my fave shows on City during the early 1980's.

Just bought the Liverpool Echo,, front page dedicated to a "Radio Legend"!

Firmly expect so mate, LFC are impeccable when it comes to doing minute silences and what not. Although the tradition seems to be changing and a minutes applause is appearing to be popular. Still very respectful
