New EPG (Merged)

I rang Sky Saturday morning to cancel sport. The woman said to me that if my box switches itself off in the next week do not worry its probably the new HD menu being sent to my box. I asked her if she meant the new EPG which she said yes. I was not convinced and asked her what it would look like and she went on to explain exactly what we are all waiting for and also said two of her friends had received it Thursday . I told her I thought it had been delayed until next year but she no it was only delayed for a couple of weeks. Is she correct ? or is she mis informed.?

Thanks very much. Have posted on this site about twice since joining as i have never had anything worth while to say. But now I have a genuine comment about something that happened and i get an idiot like you replying. You are obviously upset that you havent heard this for yourself!. I was amazed myself and dare i say it a little excited when she said this to me and that is why i posted on this site to see if anyone has been told the same. I wont bother posting again as I am obviously not upto the standands expected on this site. I hope that its true and when people start receiving their new EPG they will point this post out to you. If its not true then I was fed bum information and I can only apologise for asking the question and wasting your time.

Hi Newcomer
Don't be put off by what might seem to be 'smart-alec'/cynical replies. Keep on posting. The truth is tho', that we've heard this so many times with what proved to be false leads given in all good faith no doubt, but have ultimately proved to be wrong. I think we've all got to the stage where 'seeing is believing'.

Why are people so desperate for the new SKY EPG?

Its not as if you going to sit there and watch the EPG all night is it?

Bit of an over-reaction there. Nobody has had a pop at you. If you look at the front page of the HD forum though, you can see the debate on this issue already.

It'll come when its ready. People are already testing it and there's been speculation/rumour/debate/BS over it being available both before and after Xmas.

You still do get the same channels you know.

maybe newcomer did get told this by sky when my old thompson box went la la i got told by a engineer a new epg was due in november i didn't post on here about because there's already been a lot of loose ends about it.
When sky tell me anything like this it goes in one ear and out of the next the new epg will come when it comes.

It doesnt mater if I tell you that this is what i was told as I dont think many of you will believe me anyway. Maybe i am a little naive and I believed what she told me. But the fact she just cancel my sports package without question and then chose to tell me to expect a new EPG this week without prompting led me to believe that if it wasnt true why would she tell me that. I guess if its not true I have learnt a lesson not to trust Sky information.

There may be some truth to what you were told. My daughter and son in law both work for Sky and although not signed up for field trials came home last week to the new EPG, she phoned me up to ask how to use it as she received it without any info on how to use it.

When my Sky+HD was installed last week the engineer told me that the new EPG would be here after Christmas... and I never even asked him about it, it was just something he brought up as he was showing me the new remote and where to find the HD channels. Take from that what you will.

Sorry, please don't get me wrong... I was in no way having a dig at you - it seems that you have a genuine answer from somebody - rather than the normal "I have a high-level contact at Sky" replies which all seem to conflict with each other.

My comment was one of a cynical spectator who has read loads of these - I was just waiting to see what other people came up with, hence the use of "other people" in my reply. I apologise if I didn't word it that way.

I feel embarrassed because I am normally one who has a go at other people for jumping on new posters. Please check my posting history - I am a nice guy... honest.

Welcome to the forum.

Dont feel embarrassed. The fact you have replied and apologised shows you are a decent person. I am also sorry for my reaction I was just very annoyed I had a genuine comment to make and was attacked for it. Thanks.

Saw some reference on here the other day that the new EPG was going to be released to all Sky employees very shortly.

Can't remember where I saw it now.

Because we are hoping it will bring us 1 step closer to some form of VOD, even if it is over the internet.

Until they are happy with the new EPG, and release it, they cannot start VOD trials

So perhaps the person at the call centre knew they were getting the EPG this week and presumed everyone will get it when actually it's just Sky staff.

First of all Newcomer, welcome to the wonderful world of DS. To be fair it sounds like the agent you spoke to will shortly be receiving the new EPG to their box at home, but the trusty old subscriber (you know, the people that give Sky their money ie. us!) have to wait a bit longer.

I think that a memo needs to go to the Sky agents on the phone not to mention the new EPG as it only upsets forum members on Digital Spy

EDIT - Neil is banned ?! Hells Bells. Time to re-read his postings
