What would you do if you had a famous mum or dad?

Somebody recently started a thread about what it the point in Peaches Geldof, or something equally as daft.

And it got me thinking (ooh I sounded all Carrie Bradshaw then). What would do if you were born into a life where you didn't want for money, you were guaranteed attention (whether it be negative or otherwise), you could make some money for yourself and perhaps have a go at doing something you really liked...?

For example I have always loved the idea of making and designing my own clothes. If Bob Geldof or Richard Branson was my daddy I could have a boutique in central London tomorrow, regardless of what talent I had.

People are usually very harsh about the likes of Peaches and Pixie Geldof, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie but can you really blame them for leading the lives they lead? And surely they're doing noone any harm? Or given that situation would you be a recluse, do a "Fifi Geldof" and keep out of the spotlight? Thoughts please

I would probably do a Paris, become famous for a sex tape, fly around the world partying and say naff stuff like TTFN and collect dogs.
Or, be Amy Whinehouse.

No self control.

Rofl, yeah maybe me too. I'd probably have a pink shetland pony on a little lead following me everywhere and a flying monkey fanning me down when I got too warm.

Living the dream!

Seriously though, do you think these people care that they are pretty much universally disliked by the media and general public? Especially when they can have the pick of literally whatever they like depending on their whims?

My parents would have slap me left to right if I had turned out like any of the names you mentioned OP.

If I had a famous parent, I supposed I would have gone to Uni much earlier than now and not have to be up this time of night studying because I'm trying to a degree whilst being a parent and working! And living in a slightly bigger property, other than that, I would hope nothing else would have been different.

I Feel your pain, I was 34 before I went to Uni, I was working 20 hours a week and I was/am a mum. Hard isn't it.

Unlike you though I wouldn't have been sensible as a child. With famous and loaded parents I would have been hell on a stick, I was bad enough with the poor ones i got

Do you think it depends on the parent then?

And how they got their wealth and/or fame?

I wasn't no princess either but there's a lot I got up to without my parent's knowledge!

I reckon it depends on the parent. My Mum's a person brought up on manners but with a caring and flexible attitude, my Dad though was one who was a bit more strict, was always one to save up to get something more than borrow money to get it (except a mortgage of course but I think it's the only time he's borrowed money from a bank/creditor).
He's an inspiration considering what he has now from where he started. If they were famous and wealthy, they would ensure that we wouldn't flash it about or taken for swindle. When I say they would have slapped the silliness out of me, they would!

If you look at the likes of Peaches and Pixie I wonder if it's a self fulfilling prophecy, almost as if they feel they have to be rock 'n' roll? Love her or hate her, their mother led a pretty wild lifestyle at times and had a bit of an image as a rock chick. Maybe they're trying to be what they think they should be?

By contrast Fifi, being that bit older is probably more aware of the destructive nature their mother's lifestyle had on the family as a whole. She probably has a lot more memories of the dark time than the other two, so has sensibly (some might say) chosen to live her life as a relatively normal girl..?

I daren't imagine what Tiger Lily will be like when she's older

What I can't abide is the likes of Chloe Madeley wittering on about how she doesn't like living in her parent's shadow.

I've got a tip for her and the likes of Ms Geldof - change your name and try making it on your own merits.

I find it rather disturbing that Fifi Geldof is labelled a 'recluse' just because she doesn't live her life in Heat magazine.

I understand she's got a life and a job and expect she's also got the sort of friends who don't need to see glossy pictures of themselves every day to know that they exist.

I don't know what I would do but I really feel it is up to the parents to bring their children up as normal as possible without spoiling them. Then when they are older could help them get a career off the ground.

It must be difficult though as I guess if you have the money you would want to give your children everything and by the time they are teenagers they have no idea the value of things.

Oh well I am not likely to have that problem!

Regardless of whether I had a famous parent or not, I think I would still like my life the way it was/is like.

I'd hate to be photographed/recognized by random people when out shopping/walking etc, it would drive me insane!

I probably would have gone to a better secondary school than the dump I did go to, I'd be half way through my first year of Uni.

Like some of you, if I'd turned out like some of the "celebs" in the magazines/papers these days, my mother would have crucified me, quite rightly too!

If I had kids & they turned out to be like any of the celebs mentioned in the OP's opening post, I'd probably upend them lol!

I'd like my kids to have a happy, fun, normal, not-in-the-spotlight upbringing. << That said, I never ever want kids lol so I suppose that last sentence doesnt really matter lol!

I would live my life , and not make a big deal about it.
Most people who have well-known parents are nothing like the celebri-spawn who are made out by the media to get coverage for acting like wastes of space.

Me too. If I only had one famous parent, I would use the surname of the non-famous parent.

No need to be "disturbed", not sure why I used the word recluse, but you're right it was the wrong term to use.

It was late and I was very tired lol

You lot are all very level headed

So noone would be tempted to chase after their wildest dreams, earn as much cash as possible, meet their favourite pop/film/sporting icon and try and snare him?

To be honest I'm not sure I'd necesarily want a job - maybe something I could to when I wanted without being tied down to regular hours. I'd probably be a bit like Paris Hilton but with class - I'd just spend a lot of time shopping, going on holidays and socialising. If I had to have a job I'd like something like working for Tatler or Vogue, or maybe acting although I'd like to think I'd have more talent and credibility than Paris.
