Football manager Harry Redknapp has promised to help Russian donkey Anapka if she is transported to the UK.

The animal came to public prominence when she was photographed parasailing over beaches after being attached to a speedboat.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Redknapp told The Sun: "I am sickened by the actions of the scumbag who treated Anapka so badly. If I had my way, I'd throw the idiot in prison. He should be prosecuted for what he's done.

"If a human is forced to do something against their will, then the person responsible would be arrested and taken to court. Animals deserve the same protection. I read all the time about animals being abused, kicked to death, used for illegal sports and so on. It makes me sick - and sad."

He added: "If she can be brought over to England, I'd find her a place in a field to live and be well cared for... I know some might joke that I've signed a few donkeys in my career. But joking aside, I feel we all have a duty of care towards donkeys like Anapka."

Rednkapp revealed that he is in the process of trying to set up his an animal sanctuary near his Hampshire home.
