A 1-year-old toddler has been signed by a Dutch football club after impressing in a YouTube video.

Baerke van der Meij was filmed kicking three balls in succession into a box, after which his father uploaded the clip onto the video-streaming website.

After coming across the video, local club VVV-Venlo then offered Baerke, whose grandfather Jan van der Meij also played for the side, a ten-year "token" contract.

The team, currently competing in Holland's top division, the Eredivisie, said in a statement: "The toddler's favourite position has not yet been determined.

"But we can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kicking technique, perseverance and, importantly, football genes via his grandfather."
