Bidders will have a chance to own a whole town as Buford in Wyoming goes up for auction for $100,000 (£63,700).

Only resident Don Sammons, a petrol station owner, is retiring from his job selling gas and will relocate next month.

Sammons told The Wyoming Tribune: "It's was a great life for me and for my family.

"I don't believe putting up for sale would do it justice. I needed to find someone who is an expert in selling unique and one-of-a-kind items.

"It is a sad day, but it also will be a very interesting day and a new chapter in my life. I'm ready for it.'

Auctioneer Amy Bates said: "Buford is a business opportunity and has a romantic lifestyle of growing a town.

"We're going to have a variety of people attracted to this property, based on what it would mean to them."

Covering ten acres of land, an old schoolhouse and a three-bedroom house, the town is the smallest in America.
