Road workers in the Polish capital of Warsaw have left a lamppost in the middle of the road.

The area has had to be closed off to traffic due to the blunder which was created after a new road layout was made along with a sewer replacement.

Local authorities and the electricity company had a dispute over who should take responsibility for moving the post. Before this could be settled, workmen had already laid the road surface meaning that it could no longer be moved.

Polish newspaper Fakt reported that the council had finally agreed to move the post but it is still unclear when this will be. Until the decision is made, the road remains blocked.

A spokesperson for the power company and owner of the post, RWE Stoen, told Fakt: "The obligation to move the lamppost, which is still in its original location, lies with the council: the investor in the project."

Incidents like this are not infrequent in Poland; there are often problems in the communication between public and private sectors when it comes to arranging infrastructure projects.
