Baby dormouse has lucky escape - pictures

By
A baby dormouse has had a very lucky escape.

The tiny creature was rescued by a man that nearly trod on him, just inches away from a busy road.

The mouse became stranded in the middle of the pavement after he fell from his mother's nest in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

The little one was only 3 weeks old and was at serious risk from the cold.

His eyes had also not opened yet, so there was no way of him finding his way home.

Luckily, the passer-by spotted him and took him along to Folly Wildlife Centre.

Staff at the centre have now named him Douglas and are working hard to make sure he is safe and well.

The centre manager Annette Risley said: "He is making great progress and will eventually go to another animal centre before being released into the wild in about a year."
