A ship carrying 700 tonnes of gold ore has gone missing.

The vessel, which also had nine crewmen on board, was headed from Neran, Russia to Feklistov Island in the Sea of Okhotsk.

The ship has successfully made the same trip in the past, according to The AP.

However, on this voyage, it sent a distress signal on Sunday (October 28), with no word from anyone on board since.

The gold ore was being transported by mining company Polymetal to be processed.
