Cambridge has been named the sex capital of Britain, according to a new survey.

Residents of the university city apparently go on more dates and have more sex than anywhere else in the country.

The poll, conducted by dating website ForgetDinner.co.uk, also discovered that three quarters of the city's inhabitants are open to role play and swinging, with a fifth of those married admitting they would cheat on their partner.

Manchester came second in the survey, followed by London, Cardiff and Bristol. The most conservative places were Worcester, Peterborough, Glasgow, Bangor and Nottingham.

A spokesman for the website said: "Cambridge is famous for its university and stuffy academic image, so it's surprising to find that the town could be home to more sexually liberated people than anywhere else.

"Based upon the feedback from our members, both single and married residents are more agreeable to playing out sexual fantasies - and they would cheat on their partners if able to do so without getting caught."
