A new coffin has been designed with a built-in sound system.

Swedish inventor Fredrik Hjelmquist said his CataCombo Sound System is the ideal gift for music lovers who do not want to rest in peace.

The coffin allows people to compile their own personal playlist before they die, which can then be streamed into their grave.

The system costs £18,500 and can even be updated whenever necessary by family and friends, using a touchscreen that's built into the headstone.

Music is sent into the coffin via two-way front speakers, four-inch midbass drivers, "divine" tweeters and "a hell-of-an-eight-inch subwoofer", Hjelmquist added.

The speakers are all powered by a 2.1 amp and fine-tuned to the coffin's unique interior acoustic space. The coffin is also fitted with an external cooling system so that the speakers do not overheat.

48-year-old Mr Hjelmquist said: "This is genuine - I've already got my own ready, although I'm hoping I don't have to use it for a few years yet.

"Just because you are dead, you should not be deprived of the life-enhancing power of music.

"This is designed to allow customers to embrace their passion for music, in this life and the next. Hi-fi is my biggest passion in life, and I will take it to the grave."
