The game, which boasts over-the-top vehicle combat, will see the player take on the role of Diesel while on the run from the mafia in the US.
During play, gamers will build a reputation by undertaking missions, taking part in challenge events and pulling off extreme driving stunts.
Gameplay will include the ability to carjack any vehicle at any time then use it as a weapon to take down enemies, while over-the-top Hollywood-style stunts, driving and shooting in real-time will also be on offer.
Midway, which plans to market the game using a 'strong TV presence featuring Vin Diesel', says it has high hopes for the title.
Marketing director Leonie Manshanden said: "Expectations are high for The Wheelman, both internally and externally.
“Reactions from all our European partners have been extremely positive. One of the key reasons for this is undoubtedly Vin Diesel's involvement. Aside from being a huge box office attraction in the action genre, he also knows games.”
A Vin Diesel movie, developed as a sequel to the game, is being produced by Paramount and MTV.
