E-tailer SimplyGames.com has reduced the price of its standalone PlayStation 3 consoles to a level it claims is market leading.

The firm is offering the 40Gb PlayStation 3 console at £289 and the 60Gb model at £339, both with free delivery.

At present, the solus 60Gb PlayStation 3 has a recommended retail price of £424.99 and the 40Gb model is on sale for £299.99, though a PlayStation 3 Value Pack, comprising of the 60Gb model, one Sixaxis controller and two first-party games, is widely available for £349.

Neil Muspratt, managing director for SimplyGames, said: "This puts us ahead of the market by a reasonable margin. We are also looking into the prospect of creating Bundle Packs, although our experience tells us that customers generally prefer a great price on the solus console and then to choose their own games."
