'GTA IV' goes straight to number one

Rockstar's epic Grand Theft Auto IV has stunned the games industry after it stormed to the top of the latest all-formats chart in spectacular fashion.

The title outsold last week's number one Wii Fit by more than nine copies to one, selling 631,000 copies on its first day and smashing all week-one sales records.

Despite sales dropping by 58%, Nintendo's exercise game Wii Fit fell just one place to become this week's number two. However, stock shortages continue to plague the acclaimed title.

Mario Kart Wii saw the largest drop of the week in the all-formats top ten, as its sales fell by some 61%, causing it to fall three places to number five.

Wii Play leapt in sales this week, rising 11 places to number four, while Sega was the only firm to release a top 40 game during GTA IV week with Iron Man: The Official Videogame making its debut at number 11.
