The producer of Resident Evil 5 has denied reports that the game has been toned down following allegations of racism.
Newsweek writer N'Gai Croal slammed Capcom's trailer for the release, noting that it featured only black zombies. He claimed: "There was a lot of imagery in that trailer that dovetailed with classic racist imagery."
Since then, Resident Evil 5's producer Jun Takeuchi has denied claims that the title has been redesigned in response to the allegations.
When asked if the game has been changed, he said, "No, not really", adding that the racist criticism "didn't have any effect on the game design".
Speaking to Kotaku, Takeuchi said: "We're in the business of entertainment... We didn't set out to make a racist game or a political statement. We did feel there was a misunderstanding about the initial trailer."
Resident Evil 5 will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year.
