Is the 'Modern Warfare 2' pricing fair?

Upping the price of arguably the biggest release of the year has caused a bit of a stink, and rightly so. Last week Activision upped the price of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to £54.99, a full £15 more than usual, citing development costs and a weak pound as the reasons why.

Yesterday, leading analyst Michael Pachter said the price increase was simply a "business decision", and although the weak pound sounded like an excuse, he said that increasing development costs could actually be ample justification. In fact, he said if the costumer accepts the new price point, it could become a regular occurrence.

But should there be a price increase on something that will sell like hot cakes anyway? Especially now since the Call Of Duty name has been re-added to stop any confusion come November. It’s no secret that development costs have skyrocketed this generation, but is it fair for the consumer to foot the bill?

What do you think? Is the price increase justified? Are you still going to purchase Modern Warfare 2? Are you happy to pay more for games in the future?
