This week on PSN… Smash Cars!

There are two interesting indie releases this week in Smash Cars and Battle Tanks, both with a heavy Nintendo vibe to them, as well as a whole host of downloadable content from the likes of Disgaea 3, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Fight Night Round 4.
Games
Smash Cars: A high-definition remake of the PS2 racer released back in 2003, you take remote-controllers cars through blown-up environments such as gardens, piers and the beach. Although it sounds like Micro Machines, it has more in common with Motorstorm and Excite Truck, with the perspective from behind the car with an emphasis on tricks, shortcuts, and lots and lots of wind and blur effects. As well as local multiplayer, you can go online with five others and collect tons of Trophies while you're there. Download it for £11.99.
Battle Tanks: If you're at all familiar with the awesome tank minigame in Wii Play, then you'll feel right at home here. Command one of four tanks from a top-down perspective, firing shells that ricochet off walls through single-screen labyrinth maps. It's effectively a twin-stick shooter with obstacles thrown in, which can all be destroyed if you're persistent (or just poor at aiming) and makes for a rather pleasant, old-school gaming experience, not to mention a great multiplayer alternative. It can be purchased for £7.99.
Demos
In an interesting twist, there is a demo to the upcoming downloadable content pack F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn. Billed as a campaign expansion to F.E.A.R. 2, you play as Replica Soldier Foxtrot 813 after the events of the story. The full content arrives on September 3.
Also available is NHL 10, which allows you to test the Battle for the Cup and Be A Tough Guy modes, dropping you in the third period of a Stanley Cup match with minutes to win the game. Tense stuff.
Downloadable Content
Batman: Arkham Asylum: As promised, the PS3 exclusive Joker download pack can be downloaded for free. The iconic villain can only be used in the Challenge Rooms, but it's a pretty sweet deal. And if you haven't done so already, a reconstruction of the Bat Cave has set up shop in PlayStation Home.
Disgaea 3: Those finished with the hundreds of hours of content that came with the original game can now purchase even more. Although there are around 40 individual items, it boils down to three flavours; characters, mode and story. You can download new and old characters individually or in packs (such as the Disgaea 2 Main Character Set for £3.99), as well as new Defender of Earth and Item World Command Attack modes for £3.19 each. There's also four chapters following Raspberyl after the events of the story, weighing in at £2.39 each or £8.99 for the set.
Fight Night Round 4: Champions Pack: Bored of punching the same old bruised faces? Get five new famous ones, including Oscar De La Hoya and George Foreman, as well as a load of new equipment for £3.99. If you just want the equipment, then you can just grab that for free with the Content Pack 1.
Crash Commando: Four new packs for the side-scrolling multiplayer shooter, adding new maps and characters such as Gangsta Rapper, Reggae Rasta and Nukem Ninja. They come at £1.19 each, or the set for £3.99. And to celebrate, the main game has been reduced to a wallet friendly £3.99 until September 10.
There is also a £6.29 content pack for Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen that adds Generation One bots and three maps for multiplayer; a new alternative-history pack set on Tatooine for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for £7.99; the Wolf Creek Course for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 at £3.19; and VeraBee stickers for LittleBigPlanet at £1.59.
Track Packs
Rock Band: Four kick-ass bands with a total of seven brand-new tracks, all at 99p each. Rock on.
Fleetwood Mac singles: 'World Turning', 'Don't Stop'
Jet single: 'She's A Genius'
Tom Petty: 'I Won't Back Down', 'Running' Down A Dream'
Billy Idol: 'Mony Mony', 'Rebel Yell'
PSP Downloads
Rock Band Unplugged has two new tracks for 99p each: 'Black Sunshine' by White Zombie and 'She's Not There' by The Zombies.
You can also download Dynasty Warriors for £13.99, which isn't a remake of the original, but rather takes bits and pieces from the entire series and focuses on the cast of the fourth game.
