DS at the 'Modern Warfare 2' premiere

Hours before the midnight launch of Modern Warfare 2, DS braved the freezing cold to attend the official UK premiere at London's Leicester Square.

After a near miss by a patrolling jeep, we navigated ourselves down a camouflage carpet and happily settled into our cosy cinema seats for an evening of festivities hosted by that jolly Northerner off the telly Vernon Kay.

The event was mainly watching gameplay footage, including being walked through the opening few missions of the game, a talking heads segment about the history of the franchise (which notably missed out all of Treyarch's contributions) and a spot of multiplayer with members of the audience, with Dom Jolly and Goldie in tow. A crowd-pleasing moment came when a member of Infinity Ward died during his single-player walkthrough, moments after choosing the easiest difficulty. Cue elitist laughter.

An hour or two later, we were ejected back on to the cold streets with a swag bag containing a notebook, T-shirt and key ring. Those lucky enough to attend could then cut the queue at HMV Trocadero's official midnight launch and be one of the first to officially grab the game.
