04:30: Hello and welcome to our live blog for Sony's press conference from Tokyo Game Show. Today we can expect plenty of new PlayStation Vita information - most likely a release date and price for Japan - as well as game announcements going into the double digits, according to reports. We'll find out exactly what in 30 minutes' time.

05:04: An announcement states that the Sony press conference should begin shortly.

05:10: The press conference begins talking about PlayStation 3, highlighting RPG successes including Tales of Xillia and Final Fantasy XIII.

05:15: Now beginning the main portion of the press conference to talk about PlayStation Vita. Vita will attract the core gamer and casual players as well as a "unique" demographic.

05:19: PlayStation Vita will debut in Japan on December 17.

05:20: Sony announcing NTT Docomo will be the 3G carrier for Vita in Japan. Pre-paid 3G plans will be available at 20 hours for 980 yen (£8/$13), and 100 hours for 4980 yen (£41/£65).

05:30: Sony's Kawano is on stage demonstrating the PlayStation Vita. He begins with trouble turning the system on, but it works on the second try. He is demonstrating how to connect to a 3G network, selecting settings such as language, time and date.

05:34: Now a different Vita demo. When waking the system from sleep mode there is a homescreen picture that users slide across the screen like turning a page in a book.

05:37: Demonstrating the media player with an Amazing Spider-Man trailer. Navigation for the media player is shown entirely using the touch screen. Scrolling through videos and music, flipping through pictures. Closing a background application uses the same page-turning motion as before.

05:43: Vita will have independent apps for social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Skype.

05:46: Capcom's Yoshinori Ono, creator of Street Fighter, takes the stage. Street Fighter X Tekken flashes on the screen. Announcing Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 for PlayStation Vita as a launch title.

05:50: Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 will offer "the same amazing PS3 experience on PS Vita". Gamers can play remotely with other PS Vita users online. New Vita features provide new ways to play, such as using the touch screen and social features through 'Near'.

05:56: A video announces that Toro and Kuro, characters from Sony's Japan-exclusive Doko Demo series, will be playable fighters in Street Fighter X Tekken.

05:57: Square Enix takes the stage announcing Lord of Apocalypse, an action RPG sequel to Lords of Arcana. Square Enix is also announcing Army Corps of Hell. Both games will arrive as launch titles on PlayStation Vita.

06:00: Final Fantasy Type-0 will release in Japan on October 27. Final Fantasy XIII-2 will release in December in Japan. No European or North American release dates are mentioned.

06:02: Final Fantasy X is being remade in HD for PlayStation Vita and PS3.

06:04: Konami's Hideo Kojima takes the stage and jumps right into talking about "transfarring" to connect Vita and PS3 games. He's talking about Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker HD and HD editions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. These games are apparently releasing separately in Japan.

06:07: Metal Gear Solid HD collection (including MGS 2 and 3) announced for PlayStation Vita in 2012. Zone of the Enders HD Collection is also in development for PlayStation Vita in 2012.

06:09: Kojima's next (untitled) game will use his proprietary Fox Engine, which is compatible with both PS2 and PS Vita. The game will allow data transfers between each system using "transfarring."

06:12: Sony announcing Everybody's Golf 6 (known as Hot Shots Golf outside of Japan) for PlayStation Vita. Connectivity is very important for the title, through both online multiplayer and national tournaments.

06:18: Two new applications that prominently feature connectivity: You Channel and Friend Network. You Channel is a to-do list app that presents your daily tasks in an RPG format. Friend Network allows avatars to meet, similar to the 3DS's Mii Plaza.

06:25: Announcing Nico Nico Douga for PlayStation Vita. It appears to be a Japanese music video game. They are spending a lot of time talking about the game, though it doesn't look likely to ever release outside of Japan.

06:29: PlayStation Vita will have 26 launch titles including Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, BlazBlue, Dynasty Warriors Vs and Michael Jackson: The Experience.

06:31: PS Vita games in development include Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Lumines Electronic Symphony, and games announced earlier such as Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Zone of the Enders HD Collection. Overall, there are 100 titles in development for Vita that will release by March 2012.

06:33: Now discussing PSP compatibility on Vita. PSP games will be downloadable via PSN, with around 500-600 games said to be available. PSP games on Vita will support dual analog stick controls and can scale their display resolution to the PS Vita's screen.

06:35: PS Vita pre-orders begin in Japan on October 15.

06:39: It appears that the press conference has ended. PlayStation Vita will launch in Japan on December 17 along with 26 games, though no announcement has yet been made for Europe or North America.
