Games out this week: 'Star Wars: The Old Republic'

The year's nearly over but the big releases aren't quite done yet. This week sees the launch of EA's attempt at taking World of Warcraft's massively-multiplayer crown with Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Release date: December 20 (North America), December 22 (Europe)
Platforms: PC (Origin)
The long-awaited massively-multiplayer title finally releases days before Christmas. Billed as the sequel after BioWare's superb Knights of the Old Republic games, it aims to give the genre a larger story focus thanks to fully-voiced characters. As well as the chance to explore multiple planets, there are space battles to partake in and lavish video sequences at pivotal plot moments.
