Guitar Hero publisher Activision and Rock Band publisher Electronic Arts are understood to be discussing ideas with Apple Corps and EMI, who represent the band's business interests and recordings respectively.
The deal, which is thought to include licensing of the group's extensive back catalogue, may see the release of a themed game such as Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
A report in the Financial Times suggests that the move "could pave the way for a broader licensing of the fab four's catalogue".
