'Subbuteo' soccer game unveiled for DS

The classic table top football game Subbuteo is to be released exclusively for the Nintendo DS, publisher 505 Games has announced.

The video game promises to recreate the finger-flick play of the board game, using a control method where players can use the stylus to control the ball.

Users will be able to choose the angle and power of their kick on the bottom screen, while the top screen will provide players with real-time feedback on everything from fouls to goals.

The game will also boast customisable tournaments and leagues, and a built-in game editor will allow users to create new teams, change player names and more.

Using the official Subbuteo rules, the title promises to make use of the handheld's Wi-Fi connection for multiplayer games.

"Subbuteo is an all-time classic and only the Nintendo DS could bring to life the touch and feel of the beautiful game in such an entertaining and engaging way," said Ian Howe, managing director of 505 Games.

"The huge DS market will also allow us to take Subbuteo to the entire family, in much the same way we all first played the game when we were young."

Subbuteo will be released in September 2008.
