Noel Gallagher links games to knife crime

Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher has joined the debate on the rise in Britain's knife crime, claiming that video games are "partly" to blame.

The lead singer and guitarist, who was voted the coolest man in Britain in 2007, spoke about the issue of street violence while collecting a gong at the O2 Silver Clef music awards last week.

"People say it's through violent video games and I guess that's got something to do with it," he said.

"If kids are sitting up all night smoking super skunk cannabis and they become so desensitised to crime because they're playing these video games, it's really, really scary.

"In my day, status was trying to be somebody, do you know what I mean? Not trying to kill somebody."
