Speaking at the opening of the E3 show in Los Angeles, Harmonix boss Alex Rigopulos also revealed that a new single from Guns 'n' Roses album Chinese Democracy will make its debut in the game.
Discussing some of the title's features, the games chief said users will be able to transfer songs from the original game to the sequel "without swapping discs".
Rigopulos, who also promised the Rock Band series would have "over 500 fully-licensed songs available this year", said that the sequel would include tracks from AC/DC and Bob Dylan for the first time.
Rock Band 2 will be released on Xbox 360 this September.
