Sony launches PS3 TV and movie service
Sony made a surprise announcement at the E3 show in Los Angeles, revealing the launch of its eagerly-awaited PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable movie and TV service in North America.

The service, which has day one backing from major studios MGM, Disney, Paramount, Turner, Sony Pictures, Warner, Lionsgate and Fox, allows PS3 users to download full-length television shows, movies and original programming.

The content, which is available in both standard and high definition, can also be transferred to a PlayStation Portable, allowing users the option of watching their downloads on the move.

Material can either be rented or bought, with the rental service giving users two weeks to watch the content.

Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is one of the movies available to rent, with MGM's Rocky and Sony Pictures Spider-Man two of the flms available to buy.

Sony has yet to reveal details for a UK launch of the service.
