PlayTV will turn the PlayStation 3 console into a fully-functional digital TV device, allowing users to watch Freeview TV and to record it onto the machine's hard drive.
Sony also confirmed it has now added the ability to record TV while playing games, a function that was previously missing from the service.
Online retailer Amazon claims the new device will retail for £59.99, but Sony has yet to announce an official price.
