The Zeemote JS1, which claims to enable "near-console gameplay on mobile phones", is similar in appearance to the Wii console's Nunchuk and will offer gamers full thumbstick control.
The device already boasts a Technology Innovation Award and has impressed many high-profile publishers, with Gameloft, Eidos, Sega and Capcom just some of the firms releasing compatible games.
"The industry support has been overwhelming and we are very proud of the fact that nearly every one of the top 15 mobile games publishers has committed to creating games compatible with the Zeemote JS1 Controller," said Beth Marcus, CEO of Zeemote.
"As we prepare for commercial launch, first in Europe then followed by North America and Asia in 2009, we have not only content creators, but also operators, handset manufacturers and OEMs all backing our product."
Games already featuring the 'Zeemote Ready' label include Ferrari World Championship, Gangstar, Brick Breaker Revolution, Tilt-A-World, Helistrike 3D and Sonic The Hedgehog.
