Capcom seeks global expansion

Published Friday, Sep 12 2008, 17:06 BST | By Mark Langshaw
Japanese publisher Capcom has revealed plans for Western expansion.

According to its annual report, the company will be "actively pursuing friendly acquisitions and partnerships" with publishers and manufacturers outside of Japan as part of its strategy to expand overseas business.

The report also revealed that the Devil May Cry publisher has "no plans to merge with any major Japanese video game publishers or toy manufacturers in the foreseeable future since it is unlikely to contribute to sales expansion overseas. Such a merger could also restrict our licensing business opportunities".

Over half of Capcom's home sales come from its native Japan, with 28% from North America and 19% from Europe. The company's target is to derive half its sales from North America, 30% from Europe and just 20% from its home market.
