Despite record sales, the Nintendo Wii remains a difficult platform for third-party publishers, according to analyst Doug Creutz of Cowan and Company.
Recent figures from research group NPD revealed four Wii titles among August’s top ten best-sellers, only one of which - EA’s Madden NFL 09 - came from a third-party developer.
"The Wii version of Madden 09 sold 79% less units than the PS3 version and 87% less units than the 360 version, despite a larger console installed base and an improved Metacritic rating," said Creutz.
"The Wii is a relatively inhospitable platform for third-party publishers," he concluded.
