Game director Mark Pacini, art director Todd Keller and principal technology engineer Jack Mathews left Retro Studios in April.
The new company will partner with EA to publish on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
Mark Pacini told Kotaku: "I've always made games for Nintendo. I'm reinvigorated. I'm really excited about what other opportunities are out there."
Retro Studios was founded in 1998 and went on to develop the critically-acclaimed Metroid Prime series for Nintendo.
