Atari to become online company

Atari will release virtually all of its games online from now on in a significant move away from the boxed product.
The developer announced that 90% of its output will be distributed via online channels instead of retail in the next five years.
The news follows Namco Bandai's acquisition of a 34% stake in the European and Asian distribution operations of Atari parent company Infrogames.
Speaking to MCV, Atari chief executive David Gardner explained that a clause in the contract means that "in five years, Namco Bandai will probably own the majority of it".
This will take much of the responsibility for physical distribution away from Atari and pave the way for the developer to become "just an online company".
