Newly-appointed head of Microsoft Game Studios Phil Spencer defended his company’s involvement with Rare after former Xbox boss Peter Moore said the UK developer is "not applicable in today's market".
"Rare is a great studio that continuously delivers high-quality, award-winning titles for the Xbox platform and will continue to do so in the future," Spencer told GamesIndustry.biz.
The Microsoft executive went on to praise the studio's recent work on the forthcoming Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.
He also cited the new Xbox Live avatar system Rare is working on as evidence of the developer’s continuing relevance in the industry.
