Users voting in a mock US election on Xbox Live have backed Democratic candidate Barack Obama.

As part of the 'Rock The Vote' scheme to encourage young people in America to vote, gamers can participate in a dummy election through Xbox Live. Convention videos and gamertag pictures are also available to download.

Results so far show that 43% have chosen Obama, compared to 31% going for Republican John McCain. 26% of users were undecided or picked the 'others' option.

Over 100,000 players have voted since August 25, making the survey larger than sample polls from CNN, NBC and Gallup.

The trial ends on November 4.
