Anti-games attorney disbarred in Florida
Published Saturday, Sep 27 2008, 09:48 BST | By Mark Langshaw
Jack Thompson, a former attorney infamous for his crusade against violence in games, has been permanently disbarred by the Florida Supreme Court.
The court cited Thompson's recurrent acts of public misconduct and recommendations from judge Dava Tunis, who presided over his misconduct suit in 2007.
In addition to disbarment for life, Thompson has been ordered to reimburse the Florida Bar fees of $43,675 (£21,837) with only a slim chance of a rehearing.
Thompson responded to the ruling by issuing a press release to gaming blog Kotaku, which stated that the disbarment was an act of revenge for him filing lawsuits against the Supreme Court.
"This disbarment is in retaliation," read the statement. "The timing of this disbarment transparently reveals its motivation: This past Friday Thompson filed a federal civil rights action against The Bar, the Supreme Court, and all seven of its Justices."
The court's ruling is effective as of October 25.
