Publishers call for an end to price wars

Publishers have pleaded with retailers to avoid further price cuts to new releases in their gaming range, following extensive slashing from Morrisons, Woolworths and Asda.
The plea was made amid rising fears that new release prices could soon plummet in light of the credit crunch, packed Christmas schedules and retailer competition.
"Price cuts in an industry which shines above the gloom can only be the strategy of those concerned that their mode of delivery to the consumer is facing threats, and they are doing their best to accelerate their own demise," Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens told MCV.
However, such warnings may go unheeded as many retailers including GAME, Woolworths and Asda announced further reductions in the run up to Christmas.
