DSi games to be region-locked
Published Wednesday, Oct 8 2008, 10:28 BST | By Matthew Reynolds

Cards purchased at retail and downloaded from the DSi Shop can only be played in their corresponding region, meaning players will not be able to import games from abroad. Original DS titles and internet browsing will be region-free, however.
In a statement to CVG, a Nintendo spokesperson explained: "DSi is region-locked because DSi embeds net communication functionality within itself and we are intending to provide net services specifically tailored for each region. Also because we are including parental control functionality for Nintendo DSi and each region has its unique age limit."
This is the first Nintendo handheld to impose regional limits, with Game Boy titles and the original DS renowned for its compatibility with games around the world.
The DSi will see a UK release early next year.
