The game is a prequel to Halo 3 and sees players assume control of a UNSC Marine in the lead up to the events of Halo 3.
The game will be developed by Bungie, who have teased it on their website in recent weeks with ambiguous messages being posted by a mystery user.
The game was described as "a new chapter in the Halo saga that lets gamers experience events leading up to the epic story told in Halo 3 through the eyes of a new hero in the Halo universe”.
