Stephen McGill, head of gaming at Microsoft's entertainment and devices unit, told MCV that the original Halo "revolutionised how first-person shooters were played on a console".
He added that "we fully expect Halo Wars to do the same for real time strategy".
Although an exact date has not yet been announced, it is understood that Halo Wars will be released at some point in the first quarter of 2009.
