Sonic voted UK's favourite character
Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog has beaten Nintendo's Mario to be voted the UK's favourite gaming character.

Sonic took 24% of the vote in a poll of 500 British gamers, conducted over the weekend at the London Games Festival.

Nintendo's Italian plumber Mario came second with 21%, while Tomb Raider's buxom explorer Lara Croft was positioned third with 16%.

They were followed by Donkey Kong (11%) in fourth, Pac Man (10%) in fifth, Link from the Legend of Zelda (5%) in sixth and Max Payne (4%) in seventh.

Pokemon's Pikachu (3%) was placed eighth, Grand Theft Auto IV's Niko Bellic (2%) took ninth and Streetfighter's Blanka (1%) finished tenth.
