Dark Athena was one of a number of titles without a publisher following the Activision-Blizzard merger.
Infogrames Entertainment president Phil Harrison revealed that the game will be part of Atari's 2009 lineup, adding: "The first game in the series was a landmark in action gaming and the outstanding team at Starbreeze are creating a feature-packed follow-up which will delight fans and new players alike."
Atari is also believed to have bought the rights to the new Ghostbusters title and has gained the rights to publish future Riddick games.
The Atari deals follow THQ's decision to acquire 50 Cent: Blood On The Sand.
