The second World Of Warcraft expansion pack beat the 2.4 million launch day sales of predecessor The Burning Crusade, which was released in January.
Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, said: "We're grateful for the incredible support that players around the world have continued to show for World Of Warcraft."
Morhaime added that the content contained in Lich King is some of the best Blizzard has ever created.
