Midway cuts 180 staff from studios

The North American publisher released 180 staff from both its Austin and San Diego studios.
The Austin studio will also close, with various unannounced projects to be scrapped along with it.
CEO Matt Booty insisted that the cuts were for the good of the company. "The actions we took today are intended to preserve the foundation of this company - our core franchises, fun arcade-style casual games, and world-class technology - in the hope that we can rebuild on that foundation in the future," he told Kotaku.
Midway, which has had little success with new franchises in recent years, is notable for developing and publishing the Mortal Kombat series.
