Research: 'Warcraft' most played of 2008
The most played game in North America in 2008 was World Of Warcraft, according to researcher Nielson.

Nielsen, which also collated lists on music and movies, discovered that the MMO was played more than the rest of the listed titles combined, according to Kotaku.

World Of Warcraft and Wrath Of The Lich King were the only titles listed with a 2008 update, with other games such as Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and The Sims released in 2007 or before.

The research also found that the PlayStation 2 was also the most played console of the year, followed by Xbox 360 and Wii.

The original Xbox was played more than the PlayStation 3 due to the high ranking of Halo: Combat Evolved.
